Pediatric Chiropractic in Ankeny
You may be wondering why a child may need chiropractic care. Chiropractic is the foundation for proper growth and development for children. This form of natural health care helps to establish the optimal function of the nervous system.
Ensuring a Clear Brain-Body Connection
Because a child’s will double in size within the first two years of life, there is an immense amount of neurological connections that are being created. In these early years, a biomechanical shift and change take place. Parents will see major gross motor development, fine motor development and cognitive development occur.
If there’s anything causing interference in the brain-body connection, then kids can have all types of challenges and may not develop as smoothly and effectively as they should.
We encourage parents to bring in their children, particularly as soon as possible after birth. Why? Because the birth process puts considerable stress on a baby, often causing subluxation. Pediatric Chiropractor Dr. Jen can remove that subluxation so your child can enjoy optimal growth and development.
Some of the Patient Reported Benefits from Chiropractic Care Include:

A well fed, well rested baby is a content baby. However, we know that isn’t always the case when we first meet our families. We provide a safe, understanding space for our families, no matter what! We understand that you may need to feed your baby and change your baby here. Our practice has a special place where parents can feed their babies. Changing stations are available in our 2 restrooms too.
Just as we would with an adult patient, we want to take a thorough history of your little one, including Mom’s pregnancy and how the labor and birth went. If your child is a toddler or of school age, we’ll ask about their development.
Our testing with the INSiGHT subluxation station is how we determine how the nervous system is functioning. We will periodically check your child’s nervous system by running new scans and re-evaluating to determine the best course of care. The test is very quick, taking just 60-90 seconds. Dr. Jen will interpret the results to let you know how your child’s brain and body communicate.
Next, Dr. Jen will do a palpatory exam. She’ll feel your child’s spine feel to see how it’s moving. If your baby has any issues with latching, Dr. Jen may examine the inside of their palate.
After the initial consultation and exam, Dr. Jen will provide families with a report of findings visit to go over results and recommendations for care.
If your child has never been to a chiropractor, they may feel nervous and unsure about what to expect. In our warm and friendly practice, we help ensure that children feel welcomed and comfortable from the very first visit.
One of the ways we help kids feel at ease is by providing a fun kids area where they can play. Dr. Jen will sometimes sit on the floor and talk to her young patients. She’s even performed exams while kids are playing with toys.
Your child is welcome to bring their favorite toy or stuffed animal, so they have a bit of home with them.
One of the ways our practice is different is Dr. Jen’s considerable experience caring for children. Hundreds of children have come through our office and have received gentle and effective chiropractic care. Dr. Jen also has been certified with the ICPA since 2013. “Since that point, my years in practice have been focused on pediatric and prenatal care,” she said.
Dr. Jen is also a mom and wants the best health for your children just as she wants for her own. She provides encouragement, reassurance and solutions to parents who didn’t get answers from their child’s pediatrician.
